Default VT600CD cutting out in 4th gear

Hello, I just bought a 1994 Honda Shadow VT600CD with with 15,000 miles on it and am have the following issue:

In 4th gear at 1/8th throttle between 55 and 65 mph it cuts out like it is running out of fuel. As you roll the throttle on it goes away. If I let off of the throttle from 75 to 80 mph and let the speed roll down to between 55mph and 65mph it cuts out as you get back into throttle. If I let the speed roll down below 50 in 4th gear and get back into the throttle it does not cut out.

The bike does not cut out in any other gear.

It felt fuel related so I changed the fuel filter, cleaned the air filter, tore the carb down cleaned and rebuilt it, changed the spark plugs. (Note, I did not break them apart so I did not synch them. I need to get a synch tool....Maybe they need to be synched??)

The bike runs great in every gear except 4th at 1/8th throttle.

I know I am not shifting too early. Has anyone else experienced this issue?? Any input would be much appreciated!

Two guesses:
Plug wires and boots. It might be arcing over under load.
Side stand safety switch.....at that speed/gear the vibration might be just right to make it cut out. (Guess that might apply to the kill switch, ignition switch and various connectors too.)

On the fuel side of the house, I'd definitely run some carb cleaner through with the gas before doing anything else.....just incase your manual effort missed something.

Thanks. I just put some Premium and seafoam in the tank. I am going to go through the electrical connections and clean them to eliminate as a possibilty.

The Seafoam might help; the "premium" gas might do more harm than good.

I'm having kind of the same issue with a 700 Shadow, between 3-5K but only in 5th and 6th. Sure feels like carbs but I am already up a couple of jets in size. Getting better, but still there. Does not do it in any other gears, sure seems like carbs but I am almost thinking something else. About has me stumped as well.

Sounds like there cutting out under load, the higher the gear the harder is is for the engine to rotate the rear wheel, so it could be spark brake down, check the plugs and see what color they are (light tan to med brown), check the wire ends for burning or corrosion, check the coils at night/in the dark and see if there a spark leakage.

Ok, read some on octane ratings....drained the premium and put 87 octane with seafoam. getting ready to check color of the new plugs, and will check the plug wires and coil today.

Thanks for the input I will keep you posted
