Default A question from a guy from up north with a bike in FL

I arrived here in Fl after four months away.

I have a place on LBI in NJ. I know the results of the salt air on my bike.

I also come to my villa in NSB four times a year where I have my Honda stored in the garage while I am away from FL with its heat and humidity and salty air.

Before I leave FL, I fill the tank, add Stabile, polish her with Liquid Glass (Dragoon's influence) and oil her chain before I leave here.

Can you riders, who have and leave a bike here, tell me how you prepare your bike for storage during the time you head north or wherever you go?

I mounted her today in FL and she fired up immediately.

How do you prepare your FL bike for the time you are going to be away from FL?

Thanks

Jim from NJ

I try never to be away from Florida for more than a week.
If I do I get homesick!

Even if you are near the beach in NSB, as long as your bike is in a garage, you should be ok. Just slow charge the battery a bit when you first get back.

The bad thing about Florida's heat is it causes the fuel that sits in carbs to varnish and so on. Both in Cages, Bikes, Lawnmowers, whatever.

Another thing is your battery especially in winter time when temps vary from 30's to 80's in a matter of a day..

A battery tender is a GREAT thing to use even on little bikes with over-sized stators (like the one on my shadow 700, i'll NEVEr use all the power it can handle lol).

Stabil is a good thing to use, but my dad and I use Marvells Mystery Oil in EVERY tank full.. It will also act sort of like stabil does and it also cleans your carbs as you run the tank through

I wouldn't worry much about the gas going bad if you are only away 3-4 months at a time, especially if it's stored indoors.
I still have 2006 gasoline in my un-tagged '88 Mustang that I start-up & drive around about 15 minutes every 2 weeks or so. It is out of the weather under a big 3 car carport but still sees temp & humidity changes. No Stabil either. I filled it up in 09/2006 & it still has 3/8 of a tank left.
Battery condition is your only real worry in your situation.
I am assuming you ride it a bit every time you come down!
