If I were really in a bind and had to have the tach working that is something I might do, I have been soldering for 30+ years its just the hard part is getting to the circuit board.

I had to do something like that on my $1,500 electronic stove awhile back, it started giving an error that it couldn't see the temp. sensor, so I replaced that ($65), but it still gave the error, the circuit board it was connected to was $300, I ended up finding bad solder joints on it, works fine now.
