Default Palms to Pine hwy

A couple of weeks ago my Godson, his uncle, a friend and I took a jaunt from Riverside through Anza then down into Palm Desert vis Palms to Pines HWY. The others had never been on this highway, even though they were born and raised here in sunny SoCal. The view from the 1/2 way point that overlooks the desert is just incredible. The winding roads were made for riding. The weather was a little chilly from the onset, then warmed as the ride went on. Being the old old guy I am, the stop we made at a sports bar was a huge relief, pun intended. Following the base of the mountain on the return trip was almost as inspiring as the start. It was my Godsons first long run on a street bike (my 1100). He's an avid offroad guy, riding with a few friends that are pros. The 180 mile trip was just what everyone needed. The others on the ride hadn't been on a trip for a few years (HOG guys). They were just as excited to get out there as my Godson. When the snow up in the Yosemite area melts next spring I'll be setting them and a few more persons up for an even longer run, maybe a few days.

I love that ride from Beaumont to Idylwild too. I did that a week before the Palms to Pines. I hit an ice patch on one dark corner. That made my arse pucker up just a tad.

There is no snow in Yosemite NOW. Daytime temps are in mid 50's. Only had 1 storm so far this year back in October.

I grew up in Cucamonga. Done the Pine Hwy runs many times. Lots, and lots of nice rides in that area along the 15 also. Where else can you, Go from the desert, up to the pine trees, and snow skiing, and down to surfing in the Pacific all on one ride, can't get better than that. Even did Hemet area to Vegas, all on dirt when I was 15.
