Hey Thousand Oaks:

Love your "Only a biker knows why a dog sticks his head out the window" line. Too bad I don't have a bumper to put that sticker on!

You are probably wise to keep your vehicles registered in OH, but if you do need to get the bike registered here in CA, one thing you will not have to worry about is a smog check. Not required... Yet.

If the stationing is temp, yeah, don't reregister, imo.

I was confused by the Yuma reference, being north of SF... being the one I knew was on the Arizona border, lol... but Yuba rocks for access to great rides, including the Feather River Canyon via CA-70. Great road, RR engineering, WPA bridges, and an awesome river.

I'm on the road at the moment, rarely checking in here... but when I get back in the fall, I'm always up for a run up "my" canyon.

Welcome to Cali,
-Oz

Here's the rub - if you are stationed temporarily, then you might get away without registering your bike in CA. But, if you are here more than a year and a regular cop continues seeing you, he will pull you over and ticket you for not registering your vehicle within ten days of moving into the state - thats the law.

I bought a bike from Washington. Biggest hassle was that it had to have at least 7500 miles on it before they would register is. It only had 2500 miles. So, I borrowed a speedo/tach from someone else, bolted it on and rode to DMV and let them inspect it. Once inspected, I took it off and put on the original speedo. Yeah, the paperwork read like I had more miles than I actually did, but I didnt really care...

In the Army, we have a form that we can fill out to change the state we claim as permanent residence. For example, my residence is Florida and i have been stationed at Ft Bragg and Ft Campbell. Both places I kept my FL registration, licence, and insurance.

Might be different for Service Members. I can only speak from experience as a civilian - and the law is that the vehicle is supposed to be registered within ten days of moving into the state.
