Anyone know of a good map? I've tried a couple now, neither are very good. I've since looked online, and the reviews of the first few I've checked had comments as to how not ALL roads were included.
I want a good map - and not some spiral book version, I'm looking for a portable i.e. paper map that folds up so I can stick it in my pocket, with ALL roads. Why is it such a hard find? I've got a GPS, and even that doesn't include all roads, hence my need for backup - but what good is my backup if it also lacks roads?

This is a very good web site for Calif. motorcycle roads. It cost $20 a year for everything but they will show you the motorcycle roads for free(but you don't get the write up and pic's of the roads till you pay the $20)
California Motorcycle Roads - Pashnit Motorcycle Tours Maps, Passionate Scenic Rides Photos and here is how the write up looks like Highway 1 - Motorcycle Ride Big Sur Pacific Coast Highway, California ROD

Start with a better GPS. The only roads my garmins don't have are a few OLD logging trails and fireroads. I use the GPS mainly for my Jeep explorations. Individaul regonal or local maps have the most detail, full state maps tend to only show main roads. Issue is you have to buy and carry multiple maps. On the bike, I will usually plot a general start and end point route map on google earth or mapquest or google maps. Then print with enough detail to find my way back to the main route, when I take a side trips. I stop at visitor centers and truckstops wherever I go and pickup local maps for the areas I might want to explore.
