50 miles an hour for 1,000 miles is pretty abitious, and that doesn't account for stops. Plus you won't be doing a whole lot of site seeing at that speed. Plus if you haven't done a lot of night riding it can be very tiring. Best of luck if you do it.

Canyon did it a month or so ago. PM him for advice. He did it with time to spare. Xrayr did it too I think.
I wont never do it, just not interested, if I need to go 1000 miles in 24hrs, Delta can take me

I would suspect you'd have to know your own limitations. For me, ain't happening. My butt hurts just thinking about it. Now, give me more time and money, I'd consider it.

Now, for those who have done it, I commend you.

Yeah there is not a whole lot of sight seeing going on on an Iron Butt ride. 50mph average speed is pretty easy to do, if stops are mainly for fuel, and travel is main via Highway. Heck according to my GPS my average is around 40, over an average month of commuting. But then my commutes are 1/2 mile @35 to the freeway, then Freeway and country roads to work, 55-65 limits.

I also do better at night. I have light sensitivity issues. If it's sunny out, my eye will be almost closed, unless I am wearing very dark glasses. This constant squinting, causes the tendency to fall asleep in the afternoons. On the other hand I can ride all nught, without prior rest, with out even getting drowsy.

If it's important to you to have an official iron-butt certificate then this would be your best opportunity to get it. My only advice would be to have one or two like minded friends to do it with. Bigger groups will only slow you down. Stopping to see the Hoover Dam will be a bit of a time killer as you now have to pull off the road on the NV side of the river and then walk back to be able to see the dam. Make sure you have good tires and your cooling system works... and go for it. NV roads are good and fast for the most part. You should be able to average 75 to 80 mph on most all the roads along the way. Learn your mileage limitations as the ET highway might test the limits of your fuel tank.
Now if it's not so important to get the iron butt but you really want to see this area, then get a friend or two and make it a 3 or 4 day trip. Lots of places along the route to see sites have some fun. I’ve done numerous 1000 mile days but have never felt the need for a piece of paper to document it. The memories are plenty good enough.
Let us know what you end up doing. Here’s hoping you have a great time, no matter what.

I thought the iron butt and most the long distance rides were solo, I attempted a high mileage ride with some friends but mileage/fuel consumption ratios/pee breaks and general fatigue were all different so it was frustrating and we abandoned. The one I completed was solo (3 flags)

PDM and I were talking about doing this ride we still might give it a shot but we might just go out for a nice 3 day weekend ride and stretch 1000 in to 3 days. We do not know yet, so it will be with one likeminded friend. Either way I will post pics and will have fun. His bike is new (M109R) and mine is in the proses of getting worked over with a lot of new parts. So both bikes will be in top notch for whatever trip we end up doing.
Just changed the coolant and waiting to be done over the next few weekends is.
New front and rear tire w/new tubes and the big rubber bands that cover the spokes.
Change clutch and springs/ oil and filter
? Maybe 4 degree mod?
Final drive fluid
Hard krome pipes
Jet kit
Air filter
Led license plate frame (I hate the pig nose)
HID
Lowering front and rear still need to pick 1.5 or 2.5 in and order this asap.
And do a dyno run b4 and after mods just because I want to. Not looking to gain more than 3hp just doesn’t want my Bike to sound like a scooter any more.
Maybe SS brake line still thinking if it’s worth it

I'd do it, but not with the current bike. Most I've done in a day on mine is 400 miles.
