Default Anyone ride the Walt Gray ride in past years?

This weekend (Sunday) is the Walt Gray ride 8th annual run.

I have rode (2-up) a number of event rides the last couple years, but nothing this large - wondering if anyone has rode in the past and what your opinion/experience, negative/positive.

Big rides like that are a negative for me. I've seen bikes go down(Sacramento toy run) and take out other bikes that are riding to close and could not stop or turn to get out of the way of the bike(s) that went down.

Yeah - I just saw a segment on TV about the Walt Gray run a little bit ago. Sure looked like they pack em in there too. I bet the Port-A-Potty gets packed too.
I think I'm talking my better half out of this one.

I'll jump in my Favorites for events and see what else is going on (events/swaps etc). The weather should be real nice this weekend - if we don't find an event to agree on, we'll just head up the hills and get lost for awhile.
I'll hook up the GPS for gas locations when needed, extra cash for chow and call it our own event for a day.

Thanks

I have only rode in two large events, one of them being the toys for tots run in Sacramento where a dog spooked by all the noise, bolted and ran into the front tire of a HD in front of me knocking the bike down.
The other being a goldwing run to Quincy. Extremely boring. Not to mention when 150 bikes stop for lunch it takes a long time to get a burger and fries.
Alice's restaurant is a fun place to ride to. It makes you feel like you are with a bunch of biker's on a poker run. Right down to the crowding and the length of time to get served.

If your real lucky you might find a parking place.

Who knows, ya might even meet an HSN member there

It is fun to walk between all the bikes.

And once ya leave, you get that free feeling

We decided not to do the Walt Gray run, so I'm taking advantage of being off work today through the weekend. Just got back from dropping the bikes off to get service work done (minus oil, plugs etc). This way they will/should be good to go for all the fall riding, plus a run half way across Nevada next month.
When the fall colors arrive and the temps are superb, I'd rather ride instead of having any maintenance action get in the way.
I also didn't want to spend today & tomorrow wrenching on the bikes for any reason, and no Honey Do list.... I'll rough it with the BBQ a time or two, maybe tend to a few slabs of salmon for the smoker, and watch the lawn get wet a time or two...... man I hope I'm not going to over do it

Those pics don't make it any easier though

Although I did not ride with the Walt Gray bike run, I did go there to find out which side of the river they were going to follow. Then I rode ahead and waited for them to come by so I could take pictures.
After an hour of filming I decided to hop on the Shadow and travel up river to finish my video taping of their ride.
Needless to say, that was an arm tiring decision. Yes, I waved (HD 2 finger salute) to the last 2,000 bikers. After my arm finally went numb it wasn't so bad.
I only seen 2 or 3 GL1800's. A few crotch rockets, 1 dirt bike, several trikes and several of those Can Am Spyders, everything else may just as well been HD's as I couldn't tell the difference at the speed they were traveling.
I took the back road from Roseville to Raley Field near Old Town Sacramento.
I knew I was close because all bikes were headed in the same general flow of direction.
I could not get a good picture of all the bikes in the parking lot, but you will see about maybe 1/10 of them 1.11 minutes into the video on the left of the screen just before the biker in front of me asked a helper where he was supposed to go sign up.

The town I picked to watch from was, "Clarksville". I was hoping the snack wagon was going to be open, but my hopes were in vein.

Bow was I ever glad I decided to watch from Clarksville, as the speed limit through it is only 35 and I would have been doing 50, but because I wanted to stop I had slowed down to 30 maybe even less as a Police car came in plain view once I cleared a small grove of tree's. Phewie!

I got to chat with a fellow onlooker biker type dude before the procession came by. He was from Sacramento and the bike he is standing next to is a Vulcan something or another. I guess I did more talking than listening.

My son was asking me what the antenna was for, I told him to hole the Rat Fink on, and he says no, I mean is it for a CB radio or stereo. Again, I say it's only to hold the Rat Fink on the bike. I think I will bolt on a record player and say the antenna is for the 78 LP's

This was the only Rune I seen in the group.

Yup, that's a paddle wheel ship ah sinking.

Here they are arriving at Isleton.
