Hey all,
Just found out that the entire family (Bro's and Sis's, Nieces and Nephew's) are all spreading out for Thanksgiving. We will be on our own and are thinking about heading to the Hill Country, setting out on Thursday and coming back on Sunday. Question: Does anyone have any experience riding the Hill Country during this time of the year? I'm mainly interested about weather as we've made this run before but all information would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

Whereabouts in the Hill Country you plan on going?
Riding should be real good, but like Homebrewr said, "watch out for the deer". They tend to go into rut around then and will be everywhere especially around sun down.

We plan on doing the 3 Sisters and staying in Leakey. Dallas to Leakey is roughly 400 miles and is about a 10 hour ride with all stops. I figure that we would be able to head out around 10:00am each day and would need to be done riding by 4:30 to account for DST so the thought would be to run about 200 miles per day. So if we left on Thursday around 2:00pm we could make it somewhere like Hamilton for the night. Each day we would have to stay somewhere different and the goal would be to finish on Sunday by 3:00pm.
Of course, it doesn't have to be the 3 Sisters - anywhere down in the Hill Country is fine by me. Yes, we know the deer very well down there. One of the gals we were riding with had a deer jump of her gas tank one year. She was very lucky!

But do watch the weather.
I remember Thanksgiving 1992, when an Ice storm hit Texas. We drove from San Marcos to Waco on I-35 covered in ice the whole way. Not fun in a van! Don't recommend it on 2 wheels. have a safe ride,

Everyone has good suggestions. I would not put myself on the slab between Dallas abd South Texas on that weekend. Tons of idiot cages and lots of roadwork. That 16 trip is nice. Heading towards abilene and coming down 83 84 or 87 are all good trips too. River Road around New Braunfels is nice. Anywhere east of 35 heading north/south is nice.

Hey Hunnus2000, sounds like a great trip! There are so many awesome roads out in the Hill Country that it's hard to say which is best. The Three Sisters are hard to beat and Leakey is always enjoyable.
Have fun and ride safe! This is me on my Valkyrie on RR 337 this past August...
