Default So Tell Me About Del Rio...

My wife just had a phone interview for a teaching position in Del Rio that had some promise to it. We're not big party people. I'm either home, work, riding or at the gun shop so not being big on night life and continuous stimulation is fine for us.

So I ask any of you folks down that way how it is in general and how is the riding down that way? Rentals, quality of life, crime, etc.?

Since I may ride down this from San Antonio this weekend or next for a quick, day trip sort of scout, any places I had best stay away from? I don't do bars at all so no worries there. I figure I'll just point noses (mine and the bike) down Highway 90 West and take a peek.

Amos is without internet (except for his phone) for a little while, so I'll answer for him.

I've lived here for about 7 years, and I love it.

As far as a ride destination, though, we are a bit lacking. We are, however, a good launching point for day trips to some interesting spots. Langtry (home of Judge Roy Bean) is around an hour west of us as is Seminole Canyon State Park. Just a little farther up the road is Marathon and the beginning of the Big Bend Area.

North is the Devil's River Natural Area. Probably the most pristine, unspoiled, river left in Texas.

And speaking of rivers, the Devil's, Pecos , and Rio Grande come together to form Lake Amistad. 130 square miles of some of the best fishing in the world. There are boat and kayak rentals available.

We're within an hour's ride of the Three Sisters.

We're less than an hour from Eagle Pass and the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino.

There are at least three rally type motorcycle events held here each year. October 12, 13, & 14th the Southern Cruisers will have their Run For The Border at the Elks Lodge. Food, a band Sat. night, people and bike games.

In early March they have an event in Brackettville called Fort Clarke Days/Los Moras. Lot's of history and great food. Southern Cruisers have a rally there with free dinner and guided rides.

Also in March the Del Rio Chapter if the Gypsys MC has a big St. Patrick's Day Bash, also at the Elks.

If you let me know when you're coming, I'd be glad to show you around.
