Default What you guys planning for the winter months?

Well, since the snow and sub-zero temps are knocking at the door, what are you guys planning for the snowy months?

I have been talking about another cruise to somewhere warm in february or march. Between now and then, I am working on my KZ400 bobber project. That is posted in the tech forum as my fall/winter project thread.

I have some minor stuff to do on my shadow over the winter buy my primary focus is to get that KZ to fire up and run. The rewiring project will keep me occupied for a week or two... it looks like I have some serious weeding and rewiring to do, since I have to get all new controls for the bike.

Anyone doing anything exciting they want to share? Maybe got your first ride planned for '09?

Tying some more flies for the coming summer fly fishing season. Spend some time in the shop doing a little woodworking.

Looking for a small bike for the wife to start riding in the spring. we are planning a few trips to Vermont and New Hampshire this summer.

i have another stock exhaust that i had sandblasted, and i am gonna paint flat black and cure in the old bbq some time during the winter...then see if i like it. other than that, it will mostly be staring at it and wishing i was riding, i take the the colision coverage of when i store it for the winter so i can't actually ride it...

I don't have anything specific in mind to do over the winter. Maybe a batwing fairing, if I can find an old one or if Memphis Shades ever gets around to releasing their new ones. I'm not putting the bike away, but will try to ride as much as possible over the winter months. Maybe today, if only to fill the tank.

I've been following your project Rev. Looks like fun. Please keep us up-to-date.

Maker, I'm curious to see how your blacked out pipes will look. Post a pic after you BBQ 'em.

I'm thinking we New Englanders need to plan a get-together in the Spring. Anyone interested?

Terry

Just last night I was poking around the new hampshire listings on Craigs List and found a Kawasaki parts dept that said they had 30 yr old parts on the shelf they wanted to liquidate. I gave them my shopping list... waiting to see what they email me back with. Lets see if I have fallen into another pile of crap to come out smelling like a rose. The cold weather kept me from running my electricity up to my workshop. Next weekend. Its supposed to be in the 40s, so climbing the hill four times dragging wire and conduit will make for a fun day.

As for a spring-time get together, sounds like fun. Im always looking for a reason to climb on the bike and go somewhere. Lets see who else is interested and we can find a central point to everyone. Anyone else in?

This winter I will be adding a crash bar (not designed to fit my bike so a fab-orama) and I intend to make a custom radiator cover to replace my plastic honeycomb one with a metal fishbone pattern with chrome mesh backing. Also intent on shaving down my dash and removing my tach and centering my speedo while moving it forward to blend with the dash. After relocating my headlight (down 4 in) a few years back I have always been annoyed by the way my dash and gauges stick out/up too far now.

Hopefully hunt as much as possible the entire month of december. In the mean time hopefully get all the parts to get the V&H exhaust and rejet the Sabre so she's all set for spring. I'll be substituting the Sabre for my quad and hopefully do a lot of riding in the snow. Then lets hope the ice is good this year for ice drinking, i mean ice fishing. Then fill in the remaining time w/small projects and what ever else tends to pop-up unexpeditly. Kinda like my buddy calling me last week asking for me to look at his Suzuki Intruder 1500 that's slipping out of 4th and missing 5th gear. I guess i'll have to work on that for him.

I had already put my bike up a while ago. Got a Battery Tender Jr. and it's on that life support for the winter.

I don't have anything specific planned, but I will need to get the 8000 mile checkup in the spring.

I'd like to get the Ride Like A Pro V video for Xmas. I'm also thinking about getting some riding pants.

Sometime next year I'd like to take some longer trips than I took this year (my first year riding, I stayed within 30 miles or so of home). I'd like to ride up into the mountains in Western Maine and Northern New Hampshire, there are some beautiful places to ride.

See you all out there next year.

Maintenance and cleaning is what I need to do this winter. The odometer went from 0 to just over 6000 this year, so I will probably do the 8k maintenance. All Fall the only thing that got cleaned well was the windshield. Then in late October I picked up a Corbin seat on Craigslist. To get it on I had to remove the hard bags, rear rack, sissy bar, etc. Which revealed a very dirty machine underneath it all. I'd rather ride it than wash it, but since I can't ride it....
