Default fav roads

allright people, throw 'em at me. I am settling in and ready to do some exploring.

What are the some of your favorite roads in the area? I know about the parkway, but what other gems can you share with me?

Dave

Check out the East Coast Rally ride schedule. I can send you Garmin GPS tracklogs if you need more definition.

There's also a good stretch of road running south from Troy; not nearly as twisty as the ECR routes but pleasant and scenic. Its Pekin Rd and Cartledge Creek Rd down to Rockingham. There's probably some good roads north from Troy, too -- but I'm jusyt guessing on that.

Rt.215 from the BRP down to Rosman,NC is as fun and challenging (not for sightseeing) a road as any I have ridden. That was one leg of the Saturday ECR ride. Also US129 (The Dragons Tail) on the NC/TN border is a legend, as well as the Cherohala Skyway from Robbinsville,NC to Tellico Plains,TN. Highlandman was telling me about a road in Greenville County SC that follows the steepest railroad grade in the eastern US, which has my interest peaked. I am hoping we can meet up and ride that sometime soon. Hope that gets you started .

That's US176 from Saluda to Tryon (NC actually). That's easy to find. The way I usually get there is through the Greenville County Watershed Area (Old US25) which is not so easy

We'll have to get together and do that one soon.
Besides that, many of my favorite roads were the ECR.

Default hows the weather?

Hi all. Im heading north to Helen Ga. , Franklin NC, Cherokee NC, then maybe check out the other side of the Smokies. Im leaving Jacksonville on Monday or Tuesday of next week, following 75 through GA>. How are the road conditions? Are there any places to avoid at this time of the year?

I have an 1100 Spirit . Just big enough for a trip. Any suggestions for places to stop and see? Thanks.......

Highway 11 is pretty straight but there are lots of hills and the scenery is beautiful.

Highway 178 north of Hwy 11 heading into NC has a lot of twisties and is a good ride.

Highway 64 in Western NC is also a tight fun mountain rd.

Highway 130 North or Hwy 11 is also a fun ride.

Just head towards the mountains in Upstate SC, Western NC and Northern GA and you will find an almost endless supply of great roads.

+1
I'd also suggest googling north carolina tourism. There are several good sites that list waterfalls, scenic places, etc. Off the top of my head I can't remember the exact names of any of them, and I have to go back to work now.
And be prepared for anything, weather-wise, this time of year. Especially in northern GA.
