I am considering a sprocket change on my 02 honda shadow 750 american classic edition. Any advise on the tooth number for the new sprocket and is this a bad idea? Just looking for more top end.

Yup yup. I've voiced my thoughts on it multiple times. Do a search. Look for a 38 tooth. You won't regret it.

38's the most common. It's pretty difficult to find lower. I have a friend who was looking for a 36 but he can't find it anywhere. I've found 37's, but they were aluminum and not steel. Alum wears a LOT quicker. So just find yourself a nice steel one. They're all over the place. Best thing you'll ever do to the bike. I can't say enough about it.
