Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. This week I'll go over it with a fine toothed comb. I found quite a few 'what to check on a new bike' threads on here, so hopefully I'll get on it everything. I'll have to try that eye-bolt/washer trick I found on here too to make an exhaust baffle. Intake filter will probably get gone, coolant flush/refil, oil change, spark plug check/change, etc.

I'm also quite looking forward to poking into the wtb/wts ads on here and get some stuff purcahsed too (once I get past the 3-post spam limit.) Cruising the local mc scrap yard yeilded not a single VT500 to purchase parts off of, unfortunately. Any guess if VF700 centerstand would fit a VT500? I'm guessing not, but I can't quite tell.

Of topic but wow. I haven't seen your progress on this thing yet. I've been following the thread but haven't seen these pics yet. I really like those blinkers you got. Did you do the 3-2 mod for the wires? Also let me guess on the rest, VHT engine enamel on the engine, Stock headers extended and wrapped, Custom sissy bar, blacked out the springs. Did you fill the hole on the headlight mounts? Also what year is that, did it come stock with the round headlight?

P.S. big fan of the fork boots. I cut 3 folds off mine to give them that extended look.

Any tips or tricks to getting these VT500 carbs on/off? I'm going to be rejetting it to hopefully get some power back (PO chopped the pipes -- home made thumbscrew baffles helped, but didn't cure, power loss.)

Well, after a minor incident of snapping the headlight bracket off my triple clamp (yes... the tree actually broke...,) I had the opportunity to look into getting some fork ears to hold my headlight up, as well as get to that pesky 'doesn't need a key to start and run' condition it had...

May not look like much right now, but it starts and runs with a KEY instead of a 'steal me' toggle switch!

I tried putting both the cafe bars on upside down cafe-style0ee, but the tank is too wide to use them comfortably, and I can't find a VT500 Ascot tank for a reasonable cost around these parts... Maybe graft something else on and get some clipons and a cafe cowl tail... but that's a LOT more fab than I have the time or cash to do right now.

Headlight brackets should be here this week. Hopefully they'll have enough room that I can still fit everything behind it.
