I've spent some time reading through the threads here. Looks like a lot of expertise and advice to be found. I'll be happy to share what fixes my issues of backfiring on idle after cobra drag pipe/rejet when I get it taken care of in case it helps anyone in the future. (On a 2002 vt750ACE). Right now it looks like the front cylinder carb insulator (part 16211-MAW-600) is damaged, allowing air to seep in. Found this out by spraying around the part with an obvious change in rpm when the spray entered through the damaged insulator. Upon removing it, we noticed was cracked in one place.
I ordered two replacements and hope to report back as soon as it's installed back on and tested on the road. I'm crossing my fingers that this will be the fix. Thanks again for a great community, and for the mods accepting my introduction threads even though they were threads about issues with my bike instead of straight introduction. Cheers. You're implying that a faulty carb insulator allowing air too seep in is not part of my issue? I believe it is after adjusting the a/f screw on the carb and having the same issues. If air is getting in through the damaged seal, what makes you say/think that isn't the issue?
