Default 2nd post. Help needed.

Well my bike was delivered to me today. I took it out for a ride on my lunch break and found that the speedometer does not work, as well as some hesitation in the higher rpm range. The bike is a 2007 shadow 750, it has what look to be straight pipes on it. There are spark plugs in the pipes (I'm assuming for shooting flames out of the exhaust) No wires connected to the plugs but I can deal with getting rid of those later.

My question is, do you think the bike is running rich for the fire breathing shenanigans? Which is causing the hesitation. Or is it running lean? Lean scares me...... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What do your plugs look like. Black and sooty? Running too rich. White color? Too lean. Hard to tell for sure unless you give additional information. Welcome to the forum.

I haven't had time to pull the plugs. I will go do that now and post up my findings.

Ok, so I just came in from the garage. For some reason I do not have a socket that fits my spark plugs. The only information I have is that I now know for sure that I have a set of Cobra straight pipes on this thing. I will try to find a spark plug socket to check the plugs tomorrow.

I just pulled a plug. it looks wet, but the tip is kinda white.... Any thoughts? I'm assuming a wet plug means its running way rich. What are the proper jets to run in this thing?

I don't know what jets you need but I would suggest putting some baffles in and then doing a tune up. See if you can get it to run better w/ some back pressure in the exhaust. That's where I would start.

I have an old school biker that works with me that said an old trick is to drill a hole through the exhaust pipe and run a bolt through it to create some back pressure. Would this work? I was also told there are some type of baffles I can buy that go in right at the motor.... Just can't remember what my buddy called them. Resistors maybe????

I am pretty sure the power loss would be in the lower rpm if it was a lack of back pressure.

The bolt with washer attached for creating back pressure is definitely an old school trick that works well. I have them in my Vance & Hines. Get some sort of baffle in your exhaust.
