Howdy, y'all. New member located in west Houston (for intensive purposes, Katy).

Just took my MSF course on March 31/April 1, never rode a bike until the course. Went down to the DPS office on April 2 to get my license. Bought my first bike on April 6. Found a fantastic deal on a 2003 Honda Shadow Spirit 750CC, red with red ghost flames. All it needed was new tires. I putted around in the neighborhood for a week, got the courage to drive on I10 on Friday, April 13 to get new tires. Went for my first real ride today, April 14. Was doing very well, but then I let a cage get me nervous. I ended up plowing into a ditch. Totally my fault. I knew I should have pulled over to regroup myself. No serious injuries, just a little pain. More pissed off than anything. Bent my handle bars pretty bad, broke off the mirrors, but all in all very minor and incredibly lucky. Hasn't scared me off, makes me want to ride more.

Anyways, I've been skulking around on these boards for the last 2 months, but just made an account. Glad things like this site exist.

Thanks!

Welcome, glad you're ok. Good to see you're ready to ride after that little adventure. Take it slow, and careful until you are comfortable around traffic. Hope you get your bike fixed soon. I-10 huh, and you didn't call that a real ride.

Glad that you are okay. The description of your bike sounds like it's a beaut. When you get it fixed, post a photo of the bike.

Hey neighbor (literally). Glad you're ok! Welcome and let me know if there is anything I can help you with.
I'm at Mason and Highland Knolls, where are you?

Haha, well... it took some courage to do it, that's for sure. Wasn't a real ride because I was just going out for some tires.

I took some right before the ride and some of it after. I'll see if I can get them posted in a bit.

We are neighbors! Maybe 5 minutes from you. Greenhouse and Morton Rd. I've been told that Greenhouse is the dividing line of Houston and Katy, and that everything on the west side of Greenhouse is Katy... well, I am on the west side of Greenhouse and have a Houston address. I think I instinctively just like to prove everything wrong. I grew up in Sugar Land and went to TAMU. Been out in this area for almost 4 years now.

Ok, here are some pics.

The before:

The after... not to bad... (note, since it is strapped to the trailer, the front shocks are totally compressed):
