New to the site and new bike...during 1st gear accel the bike bucks and studders until prolly 3-4k rpms I read that these. Ike come from the factory running lean (not sure why) where exactly is the mixture screw located?

It's on the right (throttle side) of the bike, lay down, look up behind the triangular air cover, kinda hard to see, sorry I don't have a pic,,it is a little "D" shaped post and has no slot in the top.

That's incorrect. The 1995 VLX has dual carbs and you need to drill out the caps to get to the pilot screws. There are 2 of them, one for each carb.

oops, didn't see or catch the 95 model part, Endy I bow to you,,,sorry for the misinformation.
though I believe it to be correct for the single carb vlx's, no cap to drill either.
