Default 3rd post/ gear shifting question

I have a 2004 shadow vt750 and I was wondering about what speed I should be shifting gears. Like a manufacture recommendation or something. Thank you.

Simple

It should be in your owners manual (sorry I sold mine with my bike)

Or you could trust the public domain? The link below should have your answer.

Let me google that for you

I bought my bike used. No manual. And I tried googling it. And couldn't find it.

Edit: clicked the link... I guess I just googled the question wrong... Thank you
Couldn't really find exactly what I was looking for though

NOTE this is for the VT750C2 (shaft drive) I would assume it would be similar. Ultimately it comes down to feel.

From the Manual courtesy of Google

Recommended Shift Points
Ride in the highest gear that lets the
engine run and accelerate smoothly. This
will give you good fuel economy and
effective emissions control. When
changing gears under normal conditions,
use these recommended shift points:

Shifting Up -
From 1st to 2nd:
From 2nd to 3rd:
From 3rd to 4th:
From 4th to 5th:
12 mph (20 km/h)
19 mph (30 km/h)
25 mph (40 km/h)
31 mph (50 km/h)

Shifting Down
From 5th to 4th:
From 4th to 3rd:
From 3rd to 2nd:
28 mph (45 km/h)
22 mph (35 km/h)
16 mph (25 km/h)

Pull the clutch lever in when speed drops
below 9 mph (15 km/h), when engine
roughness is evident, or when engine
stalling is imminent; and shift down to 1st
gear for acceleration.

I don't even follow that.
It all depends on what mods you got on your bike and how your bike is tuned.
Also depends on weight of rider, and if they have a passenger.
Also windshield and weather affects it too.

I normally go on how I hear the engine and the throttle. Very easy.

My bike won't shift into 5th at 31mph unless it's forced to do so. It only goes into 5th easily at 50mph. The dealer will not admit there is a problem, under warranty of course.

The shift points are also determined by the situation. If you shift into 5th at 31 mph while getting on a busy expressway you may be in trouble as you wont have the acceleration you need to merge safetly.

+1 Where that chart has them going into 5th gear, I'm going into 3rd gear and thats not pushing the RPMs. Usually i don't hit 5th until around 50 MPH.

Hard shifting can be caused by old oil. Try doing an oil change if it hasn't been done recently and see if it helps.
