Default Hi I am new and need help

I was attempting to remove the left crankcase rear cover. The allen head bolt was that hold on the cover was striped. As I attempted to remove the bolt I broke the water pump cover. Sucks big time. My question is will a cover from a 85 vt1100c fit a 88vt1100c. I am new to this sorry if this is a no brainer

Check the owners manuals bc I believe that the 85-95 were the same motor and the parts would be close but like I said check the manual and possibly give the local Honda guy a call, mine is really cool about offering opinions on my mods

Owner manual will not help. Nor will opinions from local shops. You need facts.

Check an online fiche file; several retailers have them available. I like Ron Ayers because that site has a function that makes this a lot easier -- a where-used lookup.

Working through your problem, the fiche page for your water pump calls out three different part numbers for the cover, the first two superseded by the third one, 19221-MAA-000. Plugging that part number into the where used box says it was used from 1987 through 1998. (The first superseded part number was used from 1987 through 1994 and the second from 1987 through 1998.) That does not seem promising.

There is no VT1100C listed for 1985, only a VT1100C. Going to another site with fiche files (I chose Honda Parts Direct.), there are four part numbers for the water pump cover (two the same as ones listed for 1988 ), all superseded by 19221-MAA-000. That does look promising.

Since all the original parts have been superseded by a single part on both models in question, you could *probably* substitute the one from the 1985 bike. It is extremely likely that it will fit your water pump but there might be some other interference issue. If you have the 1985 part in hand then it won't take long to check. If you're looking at buying the 1985 part, you would probably be better off spending $67 + shipping to get a new one from an online vendor.
