Default Newbie question about crash bars

I understand that crash bars aren't really going to do much for me in a crash, but what I was looking for was something that will prevent damage if the bike simply falls over. This Cobra crash bar looks decent: Cobra Freeway Bars - Shadow Aero and Spirit C2 750
but I was wondering if there's any other bars that are stronger?

Thanks, Bill

Nice looking shadow MrBill. What kind of bags are those. I would think most of the Hwy Bars are about the same when it comes to strength. Some are easier to install, search the form for threads, i'm sure there are plenty of them.

Crash bars, or highway bars as they are normally called, will definitely help save your bike from damage during a fall over. There have been reports of difficult installation with some of them. Lots of folks have Cobra brand. And...as always and above all, ride safe.

I've got Cobra bars on my 1100 Spirit. They mount straight to the frame right below the neck, and on the foot control mounts. I've never taken a spill on them, but they seem solid.

I put National Cycle's Paladin bars on my Shadow. My thought is that these would help in a low speed spill and help protect the expensive bits down there around the engine. Mirrors and hand levers are cheap to replace. In an honest to goodness crash like with another vehicle, I think I'd be worrying more about me than the bike and not sure the bars would help much. Might help you not getting pinned under the bike.

Stamped on the side of the bags is "LeatherLyke". I searched online for this name and found the company. I didn't find an exact match for my bags, but it looks like similar bags would sell for $450 - $500, ouch! I didn't see the top case, but didn't really search too hard.

Thanks to everyone for the good information about highway (crash) bars. I've decided to order the Cobra bars since there were so many favorable reviews on "cruisercustomizing.com".

See you all around the forum, as soon as I get my third message posted.
