This might also help in figuring out some of the differences between all the VT 1100 models...as well as identifying other models. Don't know if data if reliable, but looks pretty good...

Well, you could have asked me about a year ago and I would have told you close enough to ride together =) I was stationed in Norfolk while I was in the navy but I went back home to GA when I got out. Those are some nice looking bikes btw! I'm assuming the one that looks just like mine is a '96 but whats that other one? It looks to be in great shape. And where did you get that windshield for the one on the left? I need to get one cause I love to ride but this cold wind is beating me up on the road. If you can remember too how much did you pay for the windshield? (if you dont mind me asking of course!)

The bike with the windshield is a 96 VT1100C. I got it the end of July with the windshield already on it. The other bike is a 86 VT1100 that I picked up 3 days later.

The biggest differences between your model and the 2002 and newer models is the design of the exhaust, tank and gearing. The 90s model has the pipe running across the side of the bike.
The newer models made in 2000 have the front exhaust pipe dropping down to where the foot pegs is... The older model has more of a tear drop tank. The newer model tank is wider in the back. The older model has a 4 speed gear box. The newer, a five speed. Keep in mind that Honda was just beginning to deal with smog issues. The newer model has a charcoal canister to catch vapors off the fuel tank. I enjoyed my 90s bike a lot. The new model is a bit faster. The styling is up to you. |
