I know this is a really dumb question but hey I'm a new rider so I will ask dumb questions. Is it safe to drive in fog? It is getting colder here in Yakima WA and this morning it was pretty foggy and it got me thinking about how safe is this to do. Any input would be great
Thanks Michael

Safe is a relative term
Is riding in fog safe? Hmmm. It's probably safer than playing Russian Roulette, but not as safe as a pass at the dragstrip.

On a scale of one to ten, one being very likely to see the next sun rise, and ten being pick out a casket by dusk, I would rate riding in fog between 5 and 8. The fivish end being fog and roads you are very familiar with and none/little traffic, and eight being strange roads/lots of traffic.

If you're really worried about being safe, you may want to rethink your decision to ride a motorcycle.

GoldWing. Nothing else needs be said...

Here on the east coast, if I wasn't going to ride in the fog I might have one or two riding days a year.

Riding in the fog is just like riding in any other condition (rain, dark, wet roads, heavy traffic, etc.) in that you adjust for conditions.

In the fog, drop your speed to give you more time to react, be even more vigilant than normal for things going on around you, and be especially aware of drivers behind and beside you. And wear whatever you need to to be more visible.

There are no dumb questions, btw, except the one you really needed to ask but didn't.

Your definition of fog may not match that of others here on the board.

I grew up in fog where we measured it by the number of dotted lines you could see past the hood. It was not foggy at 6 lines. But it also was way too thick at 2 lines.
