if I were planning to do a lot of distance riding don't think I would look first at cruiser style bikes. Any of them will do it just fine but I would look more towards the sport touring bikes like the st1300 or concours. Might want to look at the adventure bikes like the new nc700 x
look at all kinds of bikes and get what your most comfortable on.

+1 on the NT700V. I have one. It will go all day long at 85 mph on the interstate. It get's about 55 mpg. With the built in saddle bags and a top case you can carry a lot of stuff on a trip. The wind protection is awesome. Honda didn't market that bike at all and it is aimed at a pretty small segment of the riding population but the guys that have them like them. Check out their forum: nt-owners.org. I've got 15,000 miles on mine it 2 years and that makes me lightweight. Many of those folks have 25,000 + in two years. My biggest issue with the bike is the seat height, 31.9 inches. With a 31 inch inseam it's a small problem, but I can handle the bike easily. It handles like a sport bike and has sufficient power, but certainly no excess of power. I prefer to ride it on long rides and trips to in town.

At least a 750. You will want to look at 2004 or newer to get shaft drive.
