Hi guys,
I recently purchased a 1983 VT500C. Initally, it ran pretty well, especially after I installed a new battery and changed the oil. However, it has always kind of misfired and will be slow in accelarating, but will eventually kick in. As of lately, I will be driving the bike, and has I slow down, it will completely shut off, and when I turn it back on it will be doing the same thing. Any clues as to what this could be? Carb Work? thanks for any and all help |

Just about 31k, and i rode it for a solid month, and the previous owner rode it before then. It can for about a week, but started right back up (this was a couple weeks back during sandy with all the rain, so I didn't want to ride it in the rain)

It's my first bike and know very little about the mechanics, but I haven't looked at the spark plugs. It's runs ok in general(up until last week, now it complete shuts off whenever I slow down), but it's definitely misfiring/ running on 1 cylinder

Is the idle set correctly? Does it stall whether hot or cold? On or off choke? Is the inside of the gas tank dirty/rusty? About 90% of the time a good carb clean will rectify rough runnin/stalling issues. Other culprits can include plugs, air filter, ignition system etc.

The idle speed was set a couple of weeks ago, and i live in cleveland and it's been anywhere from 40-55 degrees lately so I would say more so in the cold. It has a newer gas tank, according to the previous owner

And since its been colder, I've had to turn the choke down to start it, and eventually set it back up once it's running and warms up
