Default New to Cycles and this Forum

Hi all. I am 35 years old and looking to get my first bike. I found this forum being that I am interested in a Honda Shadow (Aero) as a my first ride. Looking forward to learning what I can from these forum.

Welcome! Like most motorcycle forums, there is much to learn mixed in with a bit of BS! Take the Riders safety course if you haven't already!

Welcome! I agree with lazyboy - take the MSF course. It's a good learning experience, and then you also don't have to take the DMV driving test, which is a bonus (you still have to take the written part, however).

I just got my first ride as well, and it is an Aero. I can confirm that the Aero is a great first ride.

Totally plan on taking the MSF and probably any follow-up courses to round out the skills the best I can. I am not worried about my driving, but everyone elses (like no one has heard that before).

The Shadow Aero is a good first bike. However, I recommend you get an "experienced" bike. I'd get something at least 5 or 6 years old, something that has depreciated to a "true" value. No matter what you think now, your first bike won't be your last bike. What you think you want now may change radically in a year or so, maybe less. Therefore, get something you can sell in a year and not take a great loss. Even if you decide the Shadow is for you, you can then "trade-up" to a new one.

It's funny because I bought mine expecting to trade up later and now I don't think I could bear to sell it. I may buy a larger bike someday, but I think I'll keep the VLX. It's just to much fun to ride now that I got all the mods done I wanted to do.
