In looking at used Shadows, what is considered high mileage? I found a blacked out 2002 Aero with 64k on the odo. Love the look of the blacked out bikes. the asking price was $2800.

I wouldn't pay that for that year with that mileage! Any used bike I buy will have less than 20K miles and be well cared for! I have heard of 80K+ miles on some Shadows but I wouldn't buy one! Just my 2 cents!

Buying for looks alone is a bad move. Get a lower mileage one and have it painted. Unless you know the owner and know it was immaculately maintained, it's not worth it.

What's your budget? I've got a relatively low mileage 02 750 Shadow ACE, that is mostly black with some shiny chrome looking bits here and there... haha.

I look for all service records and 1 or 2 owners only and if not available move on. Lots of bikes out there. Service records are the best indicator of a well maintained bike and I have found lots of used DIY bikes with full service records (including my own)

Thanks all!! Yeah, I talked to the dealer and tried get more history on the bike and they didn't have anything. I am already moving on. As for price I am trying to stay close to $3k or under for my first bike.

65000 is too many miles for a first bike or NON project bike. At 65K there are alot of things due to go wrong.
For 3K and under you can find better. Especially of you wait a month or 2. Normally I never buy a pre modified vehicle, Bike or car. Yes, my bike was highly modded when I got it.... BUT, it was done by a Honda Racing sponsored shop. As a general rule Modifications lead to potential issues.

Mileage on bikes is a tricky thing. This is because low mileage can be worse than high mileage. On a used bike I look for mileage in the range of 1000-2500 miles minimum per year of age. With this kind of mileage there is a better chance it has gotten regular maintenance and running time. Less than 1000 miles a year on a bike means it has likey been parked most of the time and services were likely skipped due to the low miles count. High mileage leads to wear, while (time) low mileage leads to deterioration and decay.
