Completely new to riding in the front seat of a Motorcycle, although I spent my summers on the back of my Grandpa's bike (he's got an '85 Harley Dresser) for as long as I could fit. Needless to say, he's a bit disappointed in my decision to go with a Honda, but I totally love the Chopper/Bobber style, and the mid/early '80's Shadow's are Perfect as a starter bike and with Super easy mods they Totally fit that Chopper/Bobber look I like.
While I know the entire site is worthwhile, anyone got any suggested reading to help this Novice out?? Name's Eric, btw. |

Hi Eric. I was in the same boat and went with a post-98 VLX because of how choppable they are. I don't know if they frown on this here but there is another shadow riding forums that is far more involved in that sort of thing. This forum here has more activity and you can get faster answers regarding repairs.
A lot of people go with Blue Collar Bobber kits but if you have any tools/skills, you can do it much, much cheaper and get a more unique look. Search "VLX Bobber" on YouTube and you will see some amazing stuff that people have done with the VLX. It really is a great bike to chop. |
