Hello.
I purchased my first motorcycle this weekend. Prior to that, I rode a 150cc scooter for seven months to get comfortable with the process and to develop my skills. My scooter had a fuel guage so I was a bit surprised that my new (new to me) 2007 Shadow Spirit had no fuel guage. I now use the trip odometer to help keep track but I wondered if the lack of a fuel guage is something you just get used to or if some of you have installed a fuel guage? Thanks. |

There is no fuel guage to install. It can be done, but it takes some fairly serious fabrication skills.

It won't take long at all to figure, reasonably close, how much fuel you have by miles traveled. It becomes a habit after filling up to determine fuel used vs fuel remaining. Adjustments for hiway, in town and head winds will factor in eventually. 3 of my 4 bikes have fuel meters but I still reset a trip meter at fill-up for what we could say is a 2nd opinion.

Fill er up and just ride locally until she spits and sputters, add 20 miles and that's your Max range. Anymore and I'm afraid ill be stranded. I like the odometer better than a gas gauge. More accurate IMO
