My idea of a motorcycle is not a coulourful bike loaded with chrome (nothing against it, just not my cup o' tea-don't be offended). I didn't want to be F*cked in the bunghole by the Harley Dealer and didn't want to spend more time fixing a bike than riding a bike so I bought a Phantom. Reminds me of the bikes at the end of WW2 where parts where taken off or bobbed in order to get down to basics. Didn't want a car on two wheels either so the Phantom was the perfect bike (for me).

Chrome parts beg to be polished all the time and I'd rather ride than clean. Cheap chrome either rusts or chips and just makes the bime look unmaintained. |

***Poast for toast!***
Number 2 I chose the Phantom for pretty much the same reasons. The Harley dealers were just plain creepy, and they pressured me to no end to get me to do business with them. They still keep sending me their "love letters" asking if I want to go on demo rides. No thanks. I was eyeing the 48 Sportster for a while, but the price scared me away. The Iron 883 was a close second, but I looked ridiculous sitting on it. Too scrunched up. But yeah, the Phantom just seemed to fit me in every aspect. The name, the size, and the color just spoke to me and said "We were meant for each other". |

In a lot of ways, I also agree. When I initially saw my Phantom at the dealer, I just loved the blacked out look with the matte black paint. There seemed to be almost no chrome other than the exhaust -- which is a little baffling considering you can get black pipes. I guess they thought that they needed a little chrome so that you'd be able to see it. I've come to appreciate the chromed bikes and the work/mods that people put into them, but it just wasn't for me.
