I'm wanting to add some apes to my scoot and love the look of Z bars. I goin these on eBay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/140890158157?redirect=mobile The guy told me they won't work on my '03 Shadow ACE. Can anyone tell me why? If my factory bars are 1" and the criss bar where it mounts to the risers as well as the area for grips on these bars are 1" then why won't they work? Thanks in advance for your help an insight! I have seen them on 2 bikes, they both were crashed and totaled within months of putting them on.... Coincidence? I aint gonna try and see if it's got something to do with the bars!

It probably has to do with the width of the handlebar area where your risers will grab the new bars.
For example, your ACE might grab across the handlebars a total distance of 5 inches, these bars might only have a 4 inch width to be grabbed.

Of the 10" in width, how much of that is reduced down from the 1.25" to the 1" for your Honda risers?
Not sure how to explain this better. Or, the part of the handle bar that is reduced down from 1.25" to the 1".............the 1" part might be 8" of the 10. So if your stock risers grab only 5" a whole bunch of 1" reduced bar will be showing and it'll look weird.

I read your first post a second time and it makes sense to me now. Sorry for my oversight there. Thanks for your input!

I measured my risers. The are 5 and 1/16th inches wide from outside edge to outside edge and 4" wide from the center of one riser to the center of the other one.
I think these bars will work and I went ahead and bought a set. I'll let you all know if they fit and post pics when I have them! Sent from my iPhone using Motorcycle.com Free App

I think they'll look pretty damn good.....are you going to try and run the electrical wires in the bars? It'll be tricky getting them through those bars but I know guys do it.

These bars are made for internal wiring, but I kind of doubt I'll do that. Just seems like too much of a hassle IMO.
Thanks for the vote of confidence! I'll be sure to post pics as they're available! Sent from my iPhone using Motorcycle.com Free App
