I had a dead front cylinder on my 2000 Shadow ACE 750 with 10,000 miles about a week ago. I didn't have the plug tool but had a friends to borrow. Put new plugs in yesterday and road all around Philly with the girlfriend.

Put it in the garage for the night. Road it to the front of my apartment to get some stuff together for a day trip and when I tried to start it again the front cylinder died again!!!!!

The first time around they were dry fouled.
Black insulator and Black metal prong...

Here is my theory. I bought this bike 3 weeks ago... or so.
It has Cobra slash cut pipes and a jet kit.
The front carb air/fuel screw is turned out 3 full turns.

My assumption is that the cylinder is running too rich and is fouling the plugs. I ordered the plug tool and should be here tomorrow. I plan to turn the screw back so it is only at 2 full turns. If anyone has some advice I'd love to hear it.

Ive had my shadow for a year now. I bought it after I passed the MSF course. When I saw it, I knew it was the bike I wanted and after looking at few other bikes, I went back and bought it.

Now that Im upgrading, I narrowed it down to a few but I cant decide.
Do I go cruiser similar style as my bike and get a VTX C(one with low handle bars and small fenders
After a member of this site told me about VFR800, I looked at a few and REALLY like that one(but they are hard to find in my area)
and recently, I looked at a Ducati Dievo(I think thats how its spelled) Carbon Edition and also LOVE the style.
I just dont know what to do.

I have a 2010 RS and while searching around on the internet I have found that there is very few after market parts for this bike.
Im thinking this is due to the fact that the bike was only made for one year. So manufacturers don't want to spend money developing parts for a bike with such a small market segment.
Does anyone one out there know of a good store/site for parts?
Am i missing something?

Im looking for things like:
pipes, sissy bars, fairings, saddle bags, seat... Things like that.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you have them, PM me with price and condition.
Thx,

I was in Wally World other day getting some oil and noticed the Super Tech oil filter is gone. I asked and they said they were recalled by W Mart Management.

I saw there were now Puralators and a whole crap load of Frams. Got a couple of the Puralators and they were 40 cents to $1.14 higher than the old ST's ($2.83 in Central Florida). I'd always gotten the ones marked made in USA vs. Mexico but it still bothers me since I have a couple left for the Shadow. What's Shakin??

I think I'd been told the ST's were manufactured by Puralator at one time. Maybe I just answered the question of why the ST's are gone. The old $Dollar Game again...bend over Charlie...

I was ridin yesterday, and about a mile from my destination my chain came off. I pulled into a gas station, and put the chain back on half way, through the gear in neutral, roll the chain back on, and rode it home. It's really loose. I don't have a stand to put the bike on to loosen the tire and roll it back to tighten the chain. Any suggestions as to how to tighten the chain? Also when I'm coming to a stoplight I pull in the clutch, downshift the gear all the way to neutral and coast to a stop. My buddy says I shouldn't do this and it's probably why the chain came off. Am I doin something wrong? I sometimes downshift, but not sure if I'm doin it right because when I do so my bike doesn't slow down much. My rpm's sorta run right through the engine braking...

Please help.

Anyone know of a good map? I've tried a couple now, neither are very good. I've since looked online, and the reviews of the first few I've checked had comments as to how not ALL roads were included.

I want a good map - and not some spiral book version, I'm looking for a portable i.e. paper map that folds up so I can stick it in my pocket, with ALL roads. Why is it such a hard find?

I've got a GPS, and even that doesn't include all roads, hence my need for backup - but what good is my backup if it also lacks roads?

For the past couple weeks, I have been doing some work on my bike. It's an '84 vt700. The chrome painting on the wheels is in pretty sad shape, and I don't want to dump more money into the bike for wheels. So, a thought came that I could paint them. I was thinking satin black with bare aluminum accents on the spokes.
Is this a good idea, and what type of prep work will I need to do?
I was thinking wire brushing the chrome smooth/off, then prime, color coat, and maybe a clear coat.

Thoughts on this?

I know I'm posting this in the wrong forum, but I haven't gotten my 'three posts' yet, so this is where I gotta post it =D

I picked up a used 99 VT1100 (Spirit). She rides pretty rough, and unless I've got her fully choked, she won't stay running (even fully choked, I have to feather the throttle a bit to keep her started.) I believe (from the smell) that the previous owner let her sit with a partially full tank over the winter, and I had to ride her about 75 miles home before I got new gas in her.

I've changed out her plugs (they were pretty much solid black) and changed the engine oil. Due to an agreement with my wife, I am no longer allowed to 'mess with' stuff I don't fully understand, so that's the limit of what I'm doing with the bike ;)

In about a month or so, I'll be taking her to the shop for a full work-up ($450 at our local shop). Is there anything else that you guys can reccomend I do to her to make her a little bit happier? I've got service manuals on the way, and again, if it's not too complicated, I'd like to do as much as I can myself before I take it to the shop. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I'm fortunate to be within a few hours of Shenandoah National Park, one of the most wonderful places on the east coast and, in its own way, the world. Winding 105 miles from Front Royal, VA down to Rock Fish Gap, Skyline Drive splits the park and is simply beautiful, full of wildlife and breathtaking vistas. For the motorcycle, it also has an ample supply of twists and turns. I tend to stay in the northen portion down as far as Lewis Mountain.

Every time I took a family camping trip down there, I thought, "I should bring the bike down here." One year, I finallly did. In addition to the camping gear, I hitched up the trailer, loaded the bike, and spent the weekend cruising up and down the Drive.

So that brings me to my point. As wonderful as it is riding down the Drive, I am frustrated with the 35 mph speed limit. I want to go so much faster and really enjoy the twisties; but the road is chronically radar trapped. So while it's a nice leisurely cruise, forget about excitement. I also suspect that's why I never see this road mentioned as one of the country's great biking roads. If it takes you 3 hours to go 105 miles, you're probably not having fun.

Ironically, I was bemoaning this fact with a street biker at one of the waysides. He obviously had a fast bike, so I asked him how he could stand riding slowly. He simply said he didn't. I guess that's a solution.

Anybody else here ride Skyline drive? How closely do you obey that 35 mph?
