I prefer the tall Old School sissy bars from the late 60's and 70's. I custom fabricated mine and several others for all models of bikes. The one on my 2000yr VT1100 Spirit is 34 inches from seat cushion to tip and I have a 20 degree rear angle which allows plenty room for swinging a leg over if standing even with tank as opposed to right next to seat when mounting bike. I used the 20 degree rear lean to symmetrically match the forward rake angle of the springer front end I also fabricated and installed on the bike for brand new in 2000. My girlfriend and daughter ride quite often with me and describe the contour as being quite comfortable even when I don't stop until hitting reserve at 150 miles or so.
