It might be necessary to park my Shadow outside for the winter. Should I place boards under the tires before I tarp it?

It's getting cold and not suitable for much riding in Northern Wisconsin. I'm about ready to put my Shadow up but always wait until the first snow fall. Should I fill the tank with gas and an additive to preserve the gas? Is changing the oil and removing the battery a good idea?
