|
|
I used to surf here regularly (this was always my favorite forum), but when traded in my '02 750 Shadow ACE last year and bought an '07 Yamaha FZ6 I moved elsewhere.
Although I love touring on my FZ6, I missed my Honda. I missed the fun of cruising back roads, the sound of a twin, and owning a Honda. My FZ6 is a wonderful bike, but it seems to lack the 'soul' that my Honda had. I regret not being able to keep it.
Looking for a project bike, I found this one on Craigslist. It's obviously not a Shadow, or a V-twin, but it's a twin and it's a Honda! It was also cheap.
Behold.......the 1970 CL350-K2 (325cc). After tinkering around with it for a couple of months, it now runs like a champ. Simple, finicky, efficient, and a joy to ride and look at. Red lines at over 10K and supposedly capable of 100mph (haven't had mine over 70).
That's the pretty side. Still needs work, but it doesn't lack character! |

Now that's a nice looking bike! I have a friend who had a '72. A word of advice: don't wear shorts when you ride that! I had the shape of that scrambler exhaust shield burned into my left leg for months!
Not sure about 100mph. We got his up to 70 (by its speedometer) and that was by putting out feet on the rear pegs and laying on the fuel tank! Of course, his suffered low compression so we know it wasn't putting out its true horsepower capability.
Enjoy the bike!

That looks like it was well kept...cool bike!
I have a '75 360 that's a lot of fun to ride - has only 7,500 on it!
And that 305 Dream looks great too!
Peace,

Very nice. I think everyone should have at least one older bike in the garage. _________________

Very cool. I'd love to have one of those! It's amazing how many people have these bikes tucked away in their garage.
Riding a vintage bike to the store is like taking a cross-country trip on a modern bike - it's an adventure! You THINK you'll make it home, but you can't be sure..... My first few rides ended up with me pushing it back into the driveway.
Owning a vintage bike seems to draw in others. I have a friend who has a '73 Suzuki sitting in a basement that he's now thinking of restoring (it's his first bike!) and another who just picked up an old Harley to work on.
Here's my everyday bike (FZ6). It's my "Iron Butt" special. It's been all around the country and up to the Arctic Ocean this summer.

Very cool. My first road bike was a blue/ white CB350 twin Super Sport. Similar but different. Mine was beat! I much doubt it would have gone 100. It might but it would take a while, downhill and a tail wind.
I just picked up a '81 Suzuki GS450L as a first bike for my wife to learn on. I'm having a blast with this old bike. I've put about 300 miles on it. Vivian probably had rode it less than 10. The speedometer goes to 85 on the GS. I've had it there and it had a bit more but not much. It "might" do 100 but not very easy. Fast enough for me. Winds out like crazy. Red line is 9500 RPM's. Get in the groove with it and it's a very fun machine to ride. It likes to shift up around 6 1/2k rpm's. I was going to keep it only for Viv to learn but I want to keep it now. |
