Judge rules town can't make own motorcycle noise rules

BRENTWOOD — New Hampshire cities and towns cannot impose limits on motorcycle noise that are stricter than what state law allows, a Rockingham County judge has ruled.

“If each town in New Hampshire had the authority to enact different noise emission ordinances, the state would be subject to a checkerboard pattern of laws,” ruled Superior Court Judge Kenneth McHugh. “For example, a motorcyclist who complies with the state noise emission limit could be precluded from driving through a town because that town enacted a lower noise emission limit than the state.”

Myrtle Beach tried the same, state told em cities can't enforce more than what the state does.

As soon as you become accustom to anything, some moron has to change it.

Stop breaking in an stealing things and that problem will most likely go away.

I see nothing wrong with running the pipes you wanna run...just don't be a douche-bag about it. Be kind to others and they will be kind to you, eh?

The problem with most noise is the duration of time you are exposed to it.

A kid screaming in someone's back yard on a summer day is not a problem, a kid screaming ALL DAY is a problem.
A loud bike is not a problem, a loud bike that goes by your house repeatedly, ALL DAY LONG, is a problem.
We have a neighbour who gave his daughter a referee's whistle to play with. Problem? Well, she blew that thing every 2 seconds, for about 4 hours, before I went and asked him if she could tone it down a little........then HE went and blew the whistle for a half hour, until several of the neighbours went to see him.

I took my loud pipes off because I am in a town house development, and with the close quarters, and echoes, it was pretty irritating for the few minutes it takes to get the bike running and get gone, but no one ever complained. I just asked myself what I would think if I had to work an abnormal shift and some goof started a loud bike at 5am.

Bottom line is that those loud pipe owners people complain about are irritating because they like to be irritating. They want attention, perhaps because they did not get enough attention from their parents or some such psycho-babble, but more likely because they are just a**holes. Ever notice there are people in restaurants who want everyone to hear their inane banter? Same thing.
Unfortunately, you cannot stop people from making the choice to be a**holes, but you can legislate against particular activities, so this is what communities try to do.
