Wink Bugs Hurt!...

Normally ride with a Memphis Fats Windshield and Fork Deflectors on my Sabre. Because of the intolerable heat yesterday afternoon, I removed the windshield this morning for my daily commute. My thoughts being that this afternoon's ride home would perhaps be a bit cooler with 100% of the wind in my face...

Was partially right... this morning the ride was much more refreshing... but large hard-shelled bugs to the neck at 70 MPH HURT!

Grasshoppers and locust are terrible too! Hail, though, feels like needles when they're small and when they're big (nickel to quarter sized or more) it's like being hit by a FAST baseball!!

I actually got hit in the head by a bird once, too, when I was coming up on a rising curved bridge near dusk, and I was doing closer to 85-90 at the time. That almost knocked me off the bike, but I maintained control. After that, I slowed down to about 75-80 for the rest of the trip.

The Japanese Beetles are particularly bad this year. My windshield is covered with them after only a short ride.

Back in the 70's I was riding in Virginia and I think was a big june bug or some kind of beetle(couldn't tell because it was totally smashed), hit me in the middle of my chest and knocked the wind out of me. Not fun at all.

I heard this quote somewhere.

A true biker knows what type of bug it is by the taste.

Best part of a South Dakota drought, the dry grasshoppers hurt much less than the fat, wet ones.
