Not sure if I want to grind it off. If it does slip then it's a little to late for a good fix.

I heard that too, grinding off the alignment nipple won't cause the clamshell to slip. If you instead drill, guessing the coordinates is a moving target, save if you grind off the alignment nipple on a test clamshell. Do you have a solution?

I’ll set it up where it needs to be then mark it. Then drill it. Doesn’t seem like it’ll be too difficult to do.
