Looking for ideas

As some of you may know, I've been riding the Yamaha Roadstar. Since buying it, my hubby replaced the leather bags with hard bags, pulled off the pillion seat and replaced it with a chrome luggage rack. The way the sissy bar attaches to the frame, though, makes it look really bad if you try to remove the sissy bar altogether. But I think it looks strange and out of place. I've thought of putting the backrest back on even though there's no pillion seat. It just looks like something is missing. Without fabricating something custom, what would you do here?

When you take the sissy bar off, there are still two visible posts on either side of the fender, which also looks odd... we've tried it. Would be great to figure out a way to move it up to use as a driver's backrest, but I just don't see how I could do it. This is a great bike, but they sure didn't make modding very easy. I've looked for various accessories, and they are very limited in what you can do. Which is okay, but this sissy bar issue is the one thing that really sticks in my craw.

Oh, but I will say it makes a great place to put your helmet on stops...I might try to figure out a nice locking mechanism and use it solely for that purpose. The helmet lock is UNDER the seat. Ive also considered strapping a nice luggage piece to it, on top of the luggage rack, which defeats the streamlined look we are looking for.

If your bags attach like the ones in the linked thread you could do that simple mod. https://www.starbikeforums.com/forum...00-tourer.html

What about removing the sissy bar and making the remaining posts into a flag holder?

If you like trunk carriers it could be fastened to the sissy bar brackets and look like it belongs that way.

Or a larger flat rack that would go back to the brackets to hold the back end of it and that would look like it was purposed.

Only a biker knows why a dog sticks his head out of a car window.

In post #1, you said it attaches to the frame. Are you saing now it attaches to both the frame and the fender?

Do you have any closeup pictures of the attachment points with the sissy bar removed? It's hard to tell from your pic exactly what you have to work with.
