Today I went and cruised Hilton Head island with jeans, boots, T-shirt and a full face helmet. I always wear a full face because I'm a pretty boy and I want to keep it that way. Temp was 95 on the island even close to the water which is way hot for this time of year, humidity at 75% or so.

In general I like to have a full riding jacket etc. but it's just to hot. Not a problem in the low speed tourist places which is where I wanted to ride. I was riding to show off and look at some bikinis. Problem is the road to Hilton Head is a 55 MPH 4 lane highway with tired confused tourist on it. I get off highway 278 as fast as possible, the tourist areas are low speed which is just fun to show off and cruise slow. I don't worry much about gear in under 30 MPH situations. Still always wear a full face helmet. Been hit with to many things, birds, rocks etc. etc.

I'm a gear guy but there becomes a point were it's just to hot.

Noticed many here have issues with FF helmets. I was the same way and tried a Modular; I keep it open at lights and riding till about 40mph then close it.

Suggest trying a Nolan too. I like a lot of helmets but the Nolan has a very large field of view. Both my N94 and N4x something, no longer made, both a better field of view and were less fog prone than my Shoei.

in the full out Texas heat i have felt cooler wearing a FF helmet as it seems to block most of the road heat off of my face when you are rolling. I open it up when I stop. I have a dirt bike style open helmet that is great for the low sun times of day with a bill but the heat seems to blow right on you. Longer trips I will wear my mesh even when it is hot since it protects from bugs, rocks, sun, birds etc, rolling it isn't bad but stopped it's hot. I usually putt around a lot so I sometimes am under protected. If I was going to put all gear on all the time it is quicker to hop in the car for any short hops around town.

My preferred mode of transportation is my Bike! Regardless!!!
So yeah I "suit up in chaps to protect my scars from the annoying flapping my jeans do...
I`ll wear a light color, heavy weight, long sleeve shirt to keep out the UV rays and to cool my body...
BUT???
After seeing how much protection my leather provided, I MAY change my habits!!?!!
That leather saved HIDE!!!

Where it wore through I`ve got a mild case of Road Rash...
Even the back pocket on my jeans was wore through and asphalt marred my wallet...

To each his Own when it comes to this subject!!!
I`m Super Gald I wasn`t in shorts, & flip flops!!!!

I sure wish that deer were in a freezer insteadda in my path,
D

I have vitiligo, so any skin exposed to the sun burns in minutes. For me it's not a choice, ANY ride is full gear!

My gear :Modular helmet, armored mesh jacket, leather boots, leather gloves, and armored mesh pants. When the temps get above high 80's for my afternoon ride home, I ditch the pants and just wear jeans.

With my modular HJC; I open all the vents, lower the tinted inner visor and completely raise the outer visor for more air flow. Once above 35 mph or so it's not too bad. This has been a really warm and muggy May for KY...

Too hot

Everyone is going to Think I`m Crazy, BUT

I`d rather ride in the 30`s, 40`s and 50`s , then the 70`s and 80`s !!!!!

I`m from Wisconsin, The Land Of The Frozen Tundra!

I HATE the heat.

I admit 30`s is pretty cold, but 40`s and 50`s are Just Right!

LongJohns, Flannel lined jeans, Leather`s, Turtleneck, Good pair of gloves, 100% Silk Glove Liners, Helmet, Nylon Chaps, and I`m good to Go!!!!!!!

When it`s in the 80`s or 90`s , you`ll find me under a big shade tree , having a Ice Cold Pabst Blue Ribbon!!

Have to confess to wearing the WORST stuff to ride in lately...
Half-Helmet, shorts, tshirt, roman-style sandals, cheap sunglasses...
rarely gloves...no jacket unless rain...no pants...no boots...

And not only do I know better as a retired Firefighter,
worked some of the worst road rash crashes of all time,
and am still running around without much in the way of gear.
One has to question the sanity of doing that...even in Florida.

Been planning to go get a nice Kevlar jumpsuit from the local shop...
but have been putting it off...really need to go do that.
And get some really good boots again...

Lived thru multiple crashes over the years...each time was wearing
just the right gear for each crash to minimize the damage.
All but one were walk-aways...
Gear works, know it works, seen it all work, had it work for me...
seen what happens when you ride in a swimsuit/no gear and screw up...
best friend crashed a bike at 55mph wearing a Domino's uniform...
he got a nice case of road rash which he still bears the scars of...

So where's my freaking brain??
Maybe that really bad crash years ago that shattered my helmet put me in DILLGAF mode? Or damaged my logic center? Reguardless, i do need to get the proper gear and quit farting around. Like my skin the way it is...whole with only a few dozen scars!

Ride paranoid. Don't let anything distract you.
Keep the paint side up, wear the lid & leathers.

Here in San Antonio Texas it get very hot. But if i get the itch to ride i ball up my jacket and gloves and put them in the freezer doe ten minutes. Then i put a shirt in some water in the sink and lightly wring it out and put that on then the jacket and helmets and stuff. The water soaked shirt keeps your sweating down and the cool jacket helps keep the temp down. Good for about an hour to an hour and a half of riding. Then at a gas station ill remove my jacket and pour a cheap bottle of water over my shirt and put my jacket back on. But thats when it hits above 95F to 105F and when I just need to ride for a bit. But i always where my gear because i have seen some carnage out in the oil fields and in town where a biker wasnt wearing gear. Crushed skulls and road rash is a strong reminder.
