Not to respond directly to your question since it has already been answered but for folks who might read this later, here's some info on the Patriot Guard structure.
Although there are a number of groups who have provided escorts for fallen service members the PGR is probably the best known and best organized when it comes to doing this. No one knows for sure how many we have done nation wide but probably a majority of all such funerals since our organization.
The PGR is in reality an umbrella group. We organize the escorts under which all organizations are welcomed to participate in. It isn't at all unusual to have a half dozen clubs participate. As such we have no dues, no requirements other than respecting the soldiers and their families.
Because we do so many funerals, the casualty assistance officers offices know who we are as do the airports and the national funeral home director's association has had us make presentations at their national meetings as well as having written articles about us in their trade publication. I've personally had funeral home directors ask me how the military does certain things because doing an active duty military funeral is a rare event for most funeral homes and evidently it isn't well covered in mortuary schools.
The best way to get involved is to register on the national website which is patriotguard.org. Then go to the state leadership page and locate the state captain for your state. Most states now have their own web sites. Email the state capt and get on the state list then find out who the sr. ride capt is for your area, email them and get on the local email list. When a mission comes up, you'll be informed.
As an aside, a lot of people just show up when there is an escort to ride which is fine but I will tell you from a lot of experience if you can do it, participate in the line. By that I mean standing the flag line at the funeral home. I won't tell you that it is either emotionally or physically easy, it isn't but it is there that you will impact the most people and it is doing that which will give you the most satisfaction. The first time a Gold Star Mother or widow hugs you and thanks you you will never again wonder if what you are doing is worthwhile.
Thanks and good luck.
