To me, leaving the 2 w I then Moonshiner to Fontana, then stop n shop, Dragon. Lunch then Cherohala. The later it gets the busier it gets the more tired one is. The Cherohala would be COLD at 0900! It's cccoooolllll at 3pm!
Not that my way is "The way for all", but Moonshiner and the Dragon are where you need to be the most rested. Others that have been please chime in! @chevyman_ky do you agree? How do we throw in the foothills pkwy?

That is the difference in looking at a map and finding the most efficient route and actually being there.

I e-mailed Linda at TWI and this is a re-post of what she sent to me.

Eric--we are working for an April 4 opening on the restaurant. i do not believe that the menu is online yet.. it is called moonshiners steakhouse--so steak, chicken, pulled pork, fish etc. we will be smoking meats. and i believe that right now we will have beer. not sure of date for liquor. we will have breakfast, lunch and supper. see you soon. Linda

Looks like a plan for Saturday night at least.

I agree with coop it would be cool on mountain that early to do foothills parkway either way it would have to be over and back its not to far ithink 18 miles across dont have to go all the way across there is a lookout towards the other side could turn around at great view of vally

I found foothills parkway west,,,it starts at Chilhowee at the north end of the dragon and runs to hwy 321. Is this the road y'all are talking about?

Thanks. I have been researching it since I made that post. As I was reading it looked like the E and F sections to Wear Valley might be open but alas it has been postponed till next year. By the time they get it open it will be time to rebuild it. It is amazing that they have been working on the road since the 60's and have less that a third done.

At 18 miles I see no problem with an out and back,,,
