1983 VT500C tach woes

I've read a few threads on this forum relating to the front cylinder camshaft holder breaking at the flared end where the tach cable connects to the tach gear. Before I seal the hole and switch the tach over to an electric, has anyone tried to JB Weld the broken tach flared end back on to the camshaft holder?

If it is just the top area for the cable attachment it may work. But most break off down inside off the cam bearing bracket. Then maybe it can be aluminum arc welded.

Mine is broken just on the tach side. The rest of the bracket is undamaged. Looking at this, it seems someone tried to replace the little gasket/O-ring that seals the tach port on the cylinder cover with some kind of rubberized silicone. It's applied pretty thick. I bet that when they torqued down the cover after applying that silicone, it put too much pressure on that part and snapped it off.

So, now a little JB Weld action! I washed both parts with Dawn dishsoap twice and dried them immediately. After I mixed the JBW, I applied an even coat held it in place for a bit, then applied some rubber bands to keep it together for the recommended 24 hours.
