New to cruisers with fuel issue

2000 shadow sabre 1100, bought the. Like 12k miles on it had been sitting a few months test rode it and had some popping on decel. Took carbs out cleaned them new fuel filter popping went away. rode it 30 miles died wouldn't start, floats were off and flooded the carbs, set floats to 9mm took it back out rode about 50 miles this time turned it off and wont crank again, main jets I think were 165 bike has k&n filter and debaffled cobra drags. Maybe carbs need new float valves or to small of jets. After the ride while it was hot it wouldn't start will try today cooled off see if it starts. Any pointers of where to start? Also thinking maybe sub air cleaner might be getting gunk in them?

Welcome to the forum.
When you say it won't crank do you mean the starter won't crank the engine? or won't fire up?
You might pull the plug to see if they are black and sooty or wet with fuel, Then you know it is starving or flooded with fuel.

It just turns over but no crank. Has good spark but they are sooty from first time it flooded I probably need to clean them and recheck? I dont want to throw parts but I'm thinking it needs a jet kit for the pipes and filter anyways?

Yes clean the plugs and see how far the idle mixture screws are out. Set them at 1 1/2 turns out as a starting place.

What size jets would typically be used with that setup? I'm thinking fuel just because after it wouldn't start we re cleaned did floats and ran perfect while it was running.

Came out to garage today to take plugs out, figured I'll turn it over see what happens and she fired up instantly. No choke or anything. So it seems like it's when she's good and hot that it hesitates and doesn't want to run. To go into more detail on that last time I cranked it up left a gas station after riding and idled fine but any throttle would kill it, feathered it up in the rpms and then stayed running. Kind of where I'm at also I lost my plug sockets so havent looked at those yet.

When you get it to happen loosen the drain screws on the bottom of the carb float bowls and see if 1 or 2 ounces of fuel runs out. If not the fuel pump may be quitting when hot.

Update. I actually went ahead and threw a pump on I ride with some guys with spares, cleaned out the sub air cleaner that was junked up put it back together cleaned the spark plugs that were covered in gas from flood and just took it out for a ride and it immediately bogged with throttle. Got it up to temp and KIND OF runs ok still keeps bogging though. I think maybe it's running lean? I'll probably put the stock pipes back on AMD see if anything changes.
