I have a 2001 honda 1100 spirit. I'm only geting about 30 m.p.g. what could cause this bad of mileage. i changed the plus and had the carbs synced and it didn't help. also what size is my fuel tank
Using prem fuel, dirty air filter, blocakage of air filter area, lugging the engine, air leaks in the carb boots (tighten clamps), dirty fuel filter. Take your pick....but start somewhere and eliminate one by one.
Right. The biggest cause of poor fuel mileage is the nut that connects the seat to the handlebars.
On my T-500 I can get both 25MPG and 55MPG dependent only on my mood and the roads I'm on. If I'm hot-dogging around or riding on the interstate, I get horrible mileage. If I'm hitting the 45MPH nice back roads and am not in any hurry to get anywhere, that engine turns into a sipper.
My Shadow does about 50 - 55MPG for just about any situation unless I'm hitting the interstate. It drops to a little more than 40 or so if I'm riding at 75 on the highway.
The basic mechanicals of getting poor mileage were covered in bullzeye's post.
Welcome to the group, by the way!
