At what "age" would you recommend replacing tires?

From the receipts that came with my bike I see that its tires were purchased in 2008. Visually I see no cracks in the rubber anywhere, but that seems pretty old to me. What do you all think?

When they wear out!

Manufacturers suggest no more than 5 years use, is what I`ve found discussed...

At what "age" would you recommend replacing tires?

7 years old would be a safe number. Anything older than that, I'd replace.

What is the mileage on that bike? It is possible that the previous owner did not retain all receipts. I would contact them.

I went to a scrap yard to dump some metal and saw a wheel that would fit my bike in fine condition. And had a near new tire. So I got it as a spare part but when I looked at the tire date it was disappointing to see it was near new but made in 2003. Rats !!!

The mileage is roughly 21K, the tires were purchased at roughly 15K.

Still check for the date code as a safe idea of the age.

Only 6000 miles in 9 years? A true barn find! While Dunlop, NHTSA, RMA state there is no correlation between tire age and tire failure unless there is an observable fault ie cracking, you have 6000 miles on the tires and probably not sure how the bike was stored. Its new to you so my advice would be to check brakes and replace the tires or take it easy with the ones you have.
