Question Petcock Question?

Hey Shadow Forums!

I've just got my first shadow and there's one thing that bugs me, I cannot seem to find the darn fuel petcock. I used to leave my petcock set to "Off" on my older bike when not riding them. And if there's no petcock - how do the reserve tanks work?

Thanks!

I take it you have a later fuel injected model?

Has a fuel low light instead of reserve and no need to turn the fuel of as it wont flow without power

It MAY be vacuum operated...
It always is good to know which Bike we`re discussing too...
What with a "reserve tank" I wouldn`t think there is one you can switch, it`s ON when engine is running/OFF when not...

But someone with your model will come along with an answer for yoa,

On your '85 you have an on/off valve under the right side cover, I believe. Your reserve tank is under the seat with a sender that lights a fuel indicator light on your cluster when your fuel level get into your reserve tank. The reserve tank is approx. .9 gal.

I only have a Haynes manual for your bike but I can't find a picture of the valve. It says there is one to turn off when servicing the system.

Follow the fuel line from the tank. I think on the 1100s it was up near the tank.

Under the cover? Man that's an interesting design decision by Honda. Guess I won't be messing around with it frequently. Thanks for the help!

Only when servicing okay, knowing that really helps out. Thanks for looking through the haynes manual! Just bought an OEM Honda Service manual hardcopy and it should arrive in the mail next week. Heard those manuals are more reliable - am I wrong to believe that?

Appreciate your words Smilie! I've search every corner of my dash and can't seem to find any gas indicators... Wonder where it could be? There's a lot of quirks on this bike I'm not aware of yet, and is uber hard to learn about it without a manual in hand . Luckily, got one on the way right now. Anyways, Thanks for helping out!

They are much better (and more accurate) than other manuals, as well as having pics.
