Hello! I am Kostya from Miami, FL and new member to this forum and a biking crown in general. About a year ago I picked up a cheap 2007 Shadow Spirit VT750DC as my first motorcycle. It was all stock with only 2800 miles on it and some minor technical issues due to previous owner was hardly ever using it. I had to learn a few things, but was able to fix all the problems by myself.
First, I found that the fuel pump was blown and the fuel tank was connected directly to the fuel line omitting pump and filter, so I fixed that by installing new OEM pump and filter. The engine was misfiring and to fix that I pulled the carbs, which were badly gummed up with old fuel residue, and gave them thorough cleaning. Service manual and some youtube videos helped me a lot in that department. I also found that only two spark plugs were firing. This happened because the front ignition coil had a tiny hole in its body and shorting to the frame. Electrical tape was a cheap cure to that problem. And the bike started running like new or even better for the next 10,000 miles.
I really like using it around the city and would like to take it one day on a longer rides. So far I was only doing 300-350 mile round trips, but I am really looking forward to reaching other states
