New to forum/ stripped headbolt

Hello everyone! I've been a reader of this forum for a while but this is my first time posting. I tried to post to the technical forums but got a message saying my account was restricted? Anyways I have a 1997 Honda shadow spirit and it is currently leaking oil from one of the bolts on top of the rear cylinder. I tried to tighten it and it seems that either the bolt or head is stripped because it will turn and appear to be getting tighter, then all of a sudden feel loose again. Im guessing it is the head which is stripped because it is made of aluminum, but I cant remove the bolt to check because it is so long that it hits the frame of the bike before I can remove it. I have everything off the motor in order to drop it from the frame, but I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions on things I could do without stripping down the whole motor to helicoil that thread, as thats a bit more work than I would like to do. I attached pictures with the wrench on the bolt in question, right next to the coolant pipe. Really appreciate the help as this has been stressing me all winter.

-Sully

The restriction is due to the new member requirement to post three separate threads in the new members section to fully activate your account. It is part of the antispam protocol

Welcome to the forum.
Yes get in your 3 threads .
It is not a head bolt since they go into the case. That 12 MM headed bolt will be easier to fix on top since it goes into the cam bearing assembly.

Yep, realized I needed to make 3 posts after checking my messages It may not be a headbolt, but it is definitely long enough that it goes deeper than the valve cover. I am trying to post a picture in my reply like you did but cant seem to figure that out, so tips on how to do that are welcome in addition to tips on what to do with the bike haha

That will require engine removal and disassembly to see if the threads down below can be HeliCoiled.
