    Technical Discussion
Reviewing your posts, it's sounding to me more like an ignition problem than a fuel problem. Your comment about the coil circuit being tapped previously would suggest that you check the coil resistances. If they are out of spec, start there. If something else has been tapped in, it may/may not...

    Community Help
Has anyone figured out if there is a way to communicate to other individual members so they know they have a message? I've tried using "conversations" but either I'm being shunned (quite possible!) or else the members from the old forum aren't getting notified they have a "conversation" waiting..

Welcome to the forum. +1 on @swifty2014's comment. Don't know what you rode before, but the 600 is about the bottom end weight wise of "big" bikes. As per Motorman, head and eyes, friction zone and throttle, and light touch on rear brake are key for low speed handling. Adjust your rear brake...

FIRST...DO NOT ROTATE YOUR CRANKSHAFT EITHER MANUALLY OR WITH THE STARTER! Doing so may transfer the slack in the cam chain to the side without the tensioner and will mess up your timing if/when you reinstall the tensioner bolt.

Welcome to the forum. Given the age of the bike, carb disassembly/cleaning probably a must. Balking may be due to a failing diaphragm, but the "carbs R us" folks on the forum may have other better suggestions.
